Grades 8-12: Virtual Test Room

LANSCHOOL AIR is a classroom management program built to help students remotely. This allows us to invigilate remotely for quizzes, tests and exams.

Reason:

The student is working towards an accredited qualification (American High School Diploma) and this makes the assessment process authentic as SwitchedOn is assessed externally to maintain our accreditation.

Implementation:

1. We will start in Grade 8 with Afrikaans and World History. 
2. Grade 9-12 – all subjects.
3. The software license will be installed by the student with the guidance of the Active staff beforehand (once off) on each student’s laptop.

Procedures:

1. This Virtual Testing Room will be available between 9am – 14h00 each day.
   1. Tests and exams will be done at 9am or 10am (not later) to have enough time available to complete the exam.
2. The student book their session according to their planning chart.
   1. You can book a week in advance.
   2. The booking will close half an hour before a session.
   3. A booking link is available on TEAMS.
3. Students can communicate with the invigilator via direct messaging on the program while in the Virtual Testing Room.
4. The quiz/test or exam will then be unblocked.
5. Once a quiz/test/exam is completed the student will raise their hand and leave the Virtual Testing Room.

Remember:

All assignments, projects, etc. must be completed and submitted before a test/exam can be booked and unblocked.

 Load Shedding Planning:

Please bear load shedding in mind when booking for a testing session. This will require excellent planning from the student to complete a test in time. (A tip – invest in a UPS/inverter or battery if possible)

Implication:

1. A student has no access to additional websites during an active testing session while busy with a quiz/test/exam.
2. The invigilator can only view the student’s screen during an active testing session.
3. A small icon at the bottom right-hand side of the screen will be visible during an active session.

Home Privacy:

While LANSCHOOL AIR is in use, the staff member will only be able to monitor students’ onscreen activity during an active testing session. It does not have the ability to access a device’s camera or microphone or pc/laptop at any time.

Benefits:

1. A parent does not need to invigilate anymore, except quizzes. (No invigilators form!)
2. A student will not need to wait for parent availability to invigilate.
3. Should a student be logged out – immediate action can be taken.
4. The moderation process will become more streamlined.
5. This will minimize the temptation of plagiarism.

Communication:

1. Communication between teacher, student, parent and invigilator is important to accommodate everybody.

Note taking, revision of notes, planning and the Planning Chart are of key importance!
