Our Journey
How Active Home Education Institute came to be

Ronél van Graan and Fay Muller — founders of Active Home Education Institute
A Friendship Begins
Ronél van Graan and Fay Muller met as educators at a small Christian school in the late 1990s. A shared passion for Christian education and a deep friendship laid the foundation for everything that would follow.
Active Home School Academy Opens
On 23 January 2001, Ronél and Fay opened the doors of Active Home School Academy — their first business partnership. They started with just 7 children, driven by a belief that families deserved a Christ-centred, personalised alternative to mainstream schooling.
Growing Into a National Academy
The academy grew rapidly into a well-known homeschooling institution, serving families across South Africa and in various parts of the world. Word spread through communities of parents who valued Christian values, teacher support, and the flexibility of home-based learning.
Active Home Education Institute Is Born
As the 4th industrial revolution transformed the world, it became clear that education needed to evolve with it. On 13 August 2018, Active Home Education Institute was established — offering the online answer to a world class, cutting-edge, digital curriculum for Christian home education.
A Global Reach
Active Home Education Institute now serves families across South Africa and internationally. With a dedicated team of qualified teachers, assessors, and support staff, the institute continues to provide one-on-one teacher support, Virtual Learning Centre options, and a Christ-centred curriculum designed to develop the whole child.
What has stayed the same
Through every change, these foundations have never moved.

Structured flexibility
A structured curriculum that still allows families to adapt the school day to their own rhythm.
Qualified educators
All teachers and assessors are qualified professionals with real classroom and home-education experience.
Community
From the initial TEAMS Meet & Greet, quarterly Parent & Student conferences and ongoing personal TEAMS messages, students and parents are never on their own.
