Holiday Policy
Please read this policy carefully to understand how the school calendar and holiday periods affect your child's learning.
This document is legally binding. Please read all sections carefully before submitting.
How It Works
Students are welcome to work during the holidays. The computer will automatically open the next assignment if the lesson is passed. Once the computer blocks the work, this indicates that teacher support is needed. No quizzes or tests may be written during the school holidays for Grades 8–12.
Policy
- Active Home Education Institute follows the South African School calendar.
- This is found on the Active Home Education Institute website and on TEAMS.
- Teachers are not available after-hours and during school holidays.
- NO unblocking will take place during school holidays and after-hours.
- Projects, experiments, essays and reports can be done during the holidays; therefore, effective planning is vital.
- The staff is available to help students and parents implement effective planning.
- Please plan ahead of time if you as a family would like to take a holiday outside of the school term. (For example, work ahead each day in every subject over a period of a month.)
Reasons for the Holiday Policy
- Through experience, lessons are repeated unnecessarily. Time is wasted as the student requires teacher support and learning gaps could occur.
- Mastery of learning did not take place as the teacher was not there to help overcome any obstacles.
- We teach them to work hard during the school term so that they can enjoy a well-deserved, stress-free holiday to discover other interests and activities and have a balanced lifestyle.
Psychologists have proven that the following areas are affected when a break is not taken:
- Mental health
- Physical health
- Emotional health
